Lets have fun looking at these 10 fun nostalgic activities for your kids. In our last blog I gave you a challenge challenge on to you to turn off the TV for one night. Do fun things like they did in the past without a TV. Let’s discuss some nostalgic activities to do with your kids.

I hear it all the time. “The reason to have kids is so you can play with the toys yourself.” It brings back memories. challenge on to you. Turn off the TV for one night. Do fun things like they did in the past without a TV. To learn more ideas of things you can do, stay tuned in for out next blog.

1. Go outside and fly a kite. Make education more fun for your kids, by teaching them while they get to have fun at the same time.

2. Put on boots and jump in puddles. You can go way back in history and put bread sacks over your shoes with rubber bands to hold them on. Who remembers doing that? My grandma always saved old bread sacks just in case we wanted to go outside and did not have our boots with us.

3. Climb a tree. Remember when we used to see who could climb the highest in the tree? Spend time bonding with your child and make a homemade tree house. The tree house is where some of my brother’s best memories come from.

4. Skip stones across a pond. Again, it is a time to see how many skips your rock does. I still think my brother miscounted, even though he always won.

5. Have a picnic outside and make animals out of the clouds in the sky. This is a great activity to stretch your child’s imagination.

6. Sit back and just spend time listening to the rain under a tin roof. Teach your kids how you can tell how far away a thunderstorm is by the number of seconds between a lightening bolt and the thunder crack sound. It is approximate, but the number of seconds between the lightening bolt and thunder, equals how many miles away the storm is.

7. Visit a farm and see the animals. Take a horseback ride. Teach your kids not everything you eat comes from the grocery store.

8. Write a letter to yourself in the future. What do you think the world will look like 10, 20, or 50 years from now?

9. Get out your old toys as a kid and play with your child’s new toy dolls. It is like meshing two generations into one play family.

10. Make a time capsule together, preserving some of our child’s toys. You can also make a family time capsule together. Let each of your children throw in one special toy that they do not play with anymore but want to save. Pick out other items that represent your family.

Recall your old school life or childhood with your friends and siblings, as you play with your old toys of the past. Break out your Rubics cube. Call your friends over and tell them to bring some of their old toys. This could be one fun baby sitting hour with your children, while you go back in time playing with each other. Remember Teddy Ruxpin? What other stuffed bears were popular in your time? Have a Super Soaker squirt gun fight in your yard. You can still find some old Super Soakers on Ebay.

What was your favorite toy of the past? Compare your old baby doll to the newer technology dolls for your child today. I remember when Cabbage Patch kids were popular. Now there are baby dolls that talk, cry, and are very life like. What about the popular time of beanie babies? What is the most popular stuffed animal of today? I am sure it will be worth a fortune years in the future.

Save your old toys in a time capsule, to pass on to your children in the future. You never know how much of a collector’s item these toys will be in the future. You are preserving your child’s college fund when you put these items in a time capsule now. You can get your own DIY Time Capsule here, to get started today.

So go outside today. What old nostalgic activity would you like to do with your kid today? Comment below.

She is one of those special family friends who has been there through thick and thin. She has been a motivator to the family. She has been an inspiring ball of energy, who has shopped with your through the years. She is the one person who has seemed like a sister to you.

She is now pregnant and about to start a new journey in her own life. What do you give someone so special to you, as a best friend? What do you give back to someone who has meant so much to you? You do not want to just give her the normal baby shower gifts. You want to give her something more unique.

Unique Gifts for a Newborn Baby

There are many different baby shower ideas out there. These are just a few of our favorite ideas for the mommy and newborn baby.

Wine Purchased from Baby’s Year of Birth

Now this is a creative idea from http://dailymom.com/expect/5-unique-baby-shower-gifts/. Purchase a bottle of wine from the year the baby was born. Make sure to pick a bottle that ages well or preserves. Then put this bottle in a decorative Baby Time Capsule from www.timecapsule.com and a special letter or fill out a “Message to the Future” note about predictions where you see your child in several years. Then, have the child open the time capsule and wine on his or her 21st birthday. We just love this idea. How about you?

A Personalized ABC Book

What a creative idea to get your guests involved in at your baby shower. Make this sentimental DIY baby gift. It is your child’s first ABC book. Nothing says I love you, like unique personalized baby gifts. You can read the instructions of how to make this at http://www.littlemissmomma.com/2013/09/awesome-sentimental-baby-shower-gift.html. Basically, have guests draw a letter from the alphabet along with a photo that starts with that letter. Have each page laminated, and then create a book out of the pages, to treasure for years into the future for your child. You could have each guest even leave a little love note for the baby, on each page.

Baby Shower Poem

This is a unique baby shower gift that is similar to a new mommy’s survival kit, only in a poem. Check out this gift from the heart at http://mummydeals.org/how-to-make-a-baby-shower-poem-gift/. You could even have all the guests at the baby shower sign the poem, so you have a guest list in a creative way, to preserve forever. This idea is perfect, for the person who does not know what to get and it is still unique and thoughtful.

Personalized DIY Write or Draw On Baby Quilt

Here is a fun activity for your baby shower, and a unique baby shower gift. Have the guests write on or draw pictures on this quilt. Make sure to sign your names, so the baby knows in the future, who all was at his or her baby shower. What a great, memorable gift to save in the Baby Time Capsule from www.timecapsule.com. Check out this creative idea at http://www.taylorjoelleblog.com/2012/07/top-5-unique-baby-shower-ideas.html.

Decorative Baby Time Capsule

Our final unique baby shower gift is a decorative baby time capsule meant to be displayed in the nursery, or a special shelf in your home. This is a gift that will surely be a discussion starter. Parents fill Baby’s Time Capsule with memorabilia from the day and year of their child’s birth. This timeless keepsake is then sealed until a designated day–years in the future–when the baby is grown. Have guests at the baby shower fill out the “Message to the Future” letters with messages of hope, inspiration, and predictions for where they see the child in the future. What a memorable, and sentimental day it will be when the child gets to open this, like when he or she graduates high school. Save baby’s first shoes, pacifier, or the “mommy to be” banner you wore at your baby shower, in the time capsule. Help your child relive what life was like the first year he or she was born, and what it was like at your baby shower.

This heartwarming 22-piece gift set comes with everything needed to create an absolutely unforgettable treasure. You can get your Baby Time Capsule at http://www.timecapsule.com/product/milestone-collection-baby-time-capsule-keepsake-gift/.

You frantically tried to get everything done before the baby came. When the milestone moment day came, you had so many mixed emotions. Now you sit awake nursing your newborn for a couple of months, waking up to cries, and feel very exhausted. The time really does go by fast. You may be overwhelmed with being a new mother, so you forget to write down some of your baby’s first experiences.

Creating Keepsakes – Pass on the Memories of your Baby

What special sounds or sayings does your baby do now, that you want your child to know about in the future? What are some other firsts for your baby, which you want to pass onto your child when he or she is grown? How will your child know what life was like when he or she was born, if you do not record it?

7 New Adventures to Record for your Baby

Record all your special moments you have with your baby that you can. You don’t know what you have until it is gone. Don’t just record the basics, like baby’s first tooth or first time sitting up, but also record the things you may not think of. We want to help you out with some of these things in our blogs.

In my neighborhood, we….

What was life like around your neighborhood when your child was born? Do you remember what your house looked like the first day your baby came home? Was it filled with family and friends waiting at the door to see the baby for the first time? Were your neighbors included in on the excitement of the baby coming home for the first time? What were the ages of the other kids in your neighborhood? Who did your baby play with the most in you neighborhood?

The friends and relatives we visited were….

Who did you visit the most your baby’s first year of life? Did you have much help from your parents or in-laws to raise your baby, or did you live far away from them? What were the reactions of these friends and relatives around the baby? Did any visits include being introduced to your friends and relatives pets? How did that go?

My favorite day trips were…..

What was it like getting your baby ready to go on a day trip? Where did you and your baby go the most? What trip did your baby seem to like the most or least? How did your baby do during long car rides?

My first time in a plane/train/boat was….

Where were you going when your baby had his or her first experience in a plane/train/boat? Who or what were you going to visit? What emotions did your baby express during the trip?

My favorite places to eat out were…

What places did your baby make the most messes? What seem to be your baby’s favorite foods? What were your baby’s reactions to eating certain foods for the first time, like lemons?

Our first vacation was…

At what age did you decide (as a parent) it was ok to take your baby or a vacation? Why? What was the car or other transportation ride like, during the vacation? Who all went with you on this vacation?

What was your baby’s most favorite part of the first vacation?

What was your baby’s reaction emotionally during the favorite part of their first vacation? Did you purchase any special souvenirs for your baby’s first vacation to remember this special trip?

Make sure to include photos of your baby’s favorite adventures and outings in a memory book or a decorative Baby Time Capsule. What would it be like for your baby, now grown years later to open the time capsule and relive what life was like his or her first year on this wonderful planet? What do you remember from your first year of birth? Help your child never forget, by preserving these recorded answers and other baby keepsakes in an artistic Baby Time Capsule from http://www.timecapsule.com/product/milestone-collection-baby-time-capsule-keepsake-gift/.

Scrapbook design by Erin Roe.

We live in a very busy, instant, microwave type world. We also all want to be great parents and keep all the sentimental memories alive for our children, especially when they are born. So how do you take care of a newborn and save their special moments in a scrapbook at the same time? We all have only 24 hours per day, with other tasks, work, chores, or priorities that may come first before creating a scrapbook. Who can relate?

Use Digital Scrapbooking.

More and more of us are constantly carrying our phones wherever we go. Use your cell phone camera more and take pictures of your daily life. It is not going to be a mundane topic years from now. Your kids may wonder what life was like for you as the parent, when they were born. Even 10 minutes before bed every other night, can be more time spent on creating a digital scrapbook page, than no time before bed. There are so many you tube videos out there to help you learn quick ways to make an easy scrapbook page to get you started.

Organize your Supplies for Scrapbooking

Just like your bills you may separate out for tax purposes, you can have different envelopes for daily or weekly events, photos, or drawings from school for your kids. This will make it easier if you also separate the folders out by months in the year. Then, you are sure to save time later, not having to put everything in order of days, months, or years. If you are using digital scrapbooking, make sure to save your photos with dates on them too. You do not want to forget later when your child first learned how to walk. You can even use folders and subfolders on your computer to organize your memories. Also make sure to have a separate folder for “templates” or other different scrapbook clipart or overlays you want to use later, to simply pull from and make your special page.

Turn Off Distractions

Again, I know you get busy like myself. I just do not want any of you to be so busy that you have regrets later in life, by not saving or preserving your child’s most important milestone moments in a decorative or scrapbook way. Not everything can be eliminated, I know. However, I am sure you need your time alone many times, so turn off the tv, lock yourself in the bathroom if you have to, to get away from your kids for a while. Shut down your email, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Do you check Facebook when taking a shower each morning? I hope not, so set aside time for you again to scrapbook.

Find an Easy Scrapbook to Use

I have tried to make a fancy scrapbook in the past, but it started to take too long. Instead of wanting to give up, I decided to use a regular photo album to start something, anything. Check out this website to learn how to even use a photo album to get you started on scrapbooking easy, clean and scentsible at http://www.cleanandscentsible.com/2011/05/scrapbook-saturday-no-2-quick-and-easy.html.

The Fastest, Easiest, No Guilt Scrapbook Idea

Our most favorite idea for the busy parent is to use a decorative Baby Scrapbook to preserve your sentimental stories, photos, and even other mementos that you cannot fit in a scrapbook. A Baby Time Capsule is better than a scrapbook, because it is even faster and easier to use. It seems like the more kids you have, the less time you have, so by your third child, you start to fizzle on creating keepsakes like an elaborate scrapbook. Make sure to include a small photo album in the Baby Time Capsule. Photo album cover included with the sticker pack in the time capsule kit. So check out the unique and artistic Baby Time Capsule from http://www.timecapsule.com/product/milestone-collection-baby-time-capsule-keepsake-gift/.

Who Can Use a Time Capsule – Church Time Capsule Ideas

Time capsules are a great place to illustrate and save our spiritual and inward journey in an outward, physical way. Pass on your faith through a gift that lasts a lifetime. A time capsule can help you chronicle your introduction to faith. You can also store your questions and prayers, and then answers received, in this sacred place of the time capsule.

Give a Baby Time Capsule as a Baptism or Christening Gift

After a baby dedication or baptism, ministers can give this timeless keepsake in the form of a decorative time capsule to the proud parents. You can get a Baby Time Capsule from http://www.timecapsule.com/product/babystimecapsule/.

The guests at the baptism ceremony can each write a note to the child using the “Message to the Future” letters included. This is a perfect for a Godmother to give away as a gift, let alone a gift from the parents of the child. The baptism of a baby is a joyful celebration, as many family members gather around taking photos. Use the photos as the first sentimental mementos to save in your baby’s time capsule.

Make sure to include a souvenir or item representing something from the religious belief or church. Also make sure to include things like a newspaper from the day of the baptism or christening. This is a timeless gift, for such a memorable milestone moment in your child’s life. Preserve this part of your baby’s history in a time capsule. Then store the decorative Baby Time Capsule in the nursery, or somewhere private for his or her 18th or 21st birthday or any other birthday or special occasion.

When the time capsule is opened, it will be interesting to see what life was like the year you baby was born, how things have changed, and all the nostalgic keepsakes inside which will probably create a few laughs and tears.

Youth Pastors can Use a Time Capsule

Youth pastors can also use a time capsule for lesson about saving yourself for marriage. You could have the youth each write a letter to their future selves about who they want to marry. You could also do a lesson about treasuring their days of youth, and using this time in their life to journal about their changes, challenges, and choices they are going through at this milestone moment of being a teenager.

The youth could do a lesson about putting away their old self, as they are trying to lose weight, get off drugs, learn how to avoid negativity, or bad company they hang around, by writing these things down, then putting them in the time capsule. It would be interesting as an adult, to open the time capsule years later to see how much you have grown or changed for the better as a teenager in youth group. This may be a great activity for a few of us as adults too, now that I think about it.

What one thing do you wish you knew as a teenager, now that you are older? What do you wish your parent’s had warned you about, encouraged you to do, or shared with you as a teenager? Have the parents of the teenagers, write out “Message to the Future” letters to the youth about predictions of where they see their son or daughter in the future, giving advice, or sharing funny stories of hope, encouragement, and life as an adult.

Photo from: https://www.facebook.com/UnionChapelMuncie/photos/a.10152257301876845.1073741836.131023046844/10152257304551845/?type=1&theater

There are many versatile uses for the time capsule. Just because it says Baby Time Capsule, does not mean you cannot buy it and collect items for your teenager now. I know you have a few spare photos of your teenager when he or she was a baby. Include those baby photos, along with a few mementos from your teenager’s life currently in the Baby Time Capsule.

Your teenager does not need to know when you purchased the time capsule. “It is the thought that counts.” After all, no matter how old your teenager is, they will always be your “baby.”So preserve your teenager’s story today, so he or she can reminisce tomorrow or years into the future. What a great Graduation gift.

How to Use the Wedding Time Capsule in the Ceremony

The ceremony is about to begin. This will be a special wedding day and none like you have ever seen before. This family has been planning on this, since the high-school sweethearts met. As the introductory music begins, you see them one by one come down the aisle in their flowing bridesmaids dresses.

It is a family affair. It is a milestone moment day, as the girls progress in age and height as each one comes down the aisle, starting with the flower girl (the bride’s niece). Next in this time capsule line of family, comes the bride’s faithful sisters, and then finally her mother carrying the decorative and heirloom Wedding Time Capsule to set up as the center piece at the end of the aisle. Get a decorative Wedding Time Capsule with special paperwork included from http://www.timecapsule.com/product/weddingtimecapsule/.

You see, this wedding time capsule has been passed down from generation to generation as each new son or daughter in the family gets married. There are tears of joy and excitement in the audience, as you can hear a pin drop, because everyone there knows what this wedding time capsule means to the family. The audience members do not know what is more exciting: the kiss at the end of the ceremony, or the filling of the wedding time capsule during the ceremony.

What to Put in the Wedding Time Capsule

During the ceremony, similar to the popular sand vases used, the couple will read their vows to each other, and then put them in the wedding time capsule. Next, they will each share tidbits from their “Message to the Future” letters to each other, and then put them in the wedding time capsule, to be completely read 5, 10, or 20 years from now. What a momentous day that will be. There is a hush over the crowd as you hear the famous wedding march song begin. The bride walks down the aisle glowing. Her eyes catch her fiancé first, and then the infamous wedding time capsule as it sits front and center on a podium where she will share her vows and treasure them for years.

Additional Meaningful Touches to Your Ceremony

Before the wedding starts, you could even have guests sign in, by filling out advice cards or predictions about where they see the couple in the future. You could even have some guests bring in a newspaper, or other items from the day of their marriage, which represent the world at this time. When the fun-filled wedding day is over, make sure to collect other important memorabilia like the decorations, all these guest sign-in cards, and a cd of the music played at their reception, and save it in the wedding time capsule. Then years later, on an anniversary of the couple’s choosing, they could open the wedding time capsule again and relive what life was like the year of their marriage. You could even have some guests bring in a newspaper from the day of their marriage.

What do you wish you would have saved from your wedding day? Comment below.

The summer flies by so fast. I know you can all relate to the phrase, “They grow up too fast.” How many times have you heard yourself ask that question? It may be too hard to comprehend that your baby is no longer a baby, but beginning preschool, kindergarten, or first grade now. So how do you slow down this time?

How to Remember their First School Year

Do you need ideas of how to capture memories of their first school year? There are so many pre-done first day of school interview questions online out there. Check out this one at http://gigglesgalore.net/back-to-school-interview-printable-free-download/. It is a fun and beautiful experience to see how your child has changed throughout the school year, physically, emotionally, and socially. Don’t forget to take their first day and last day of school year picture to have a before and after comparison of their growth. For this fun idea, check out this blog at http://gbragency.blogspot.com/2012/08/back-to-school.html

For those of you who want to preserve their baby years before they start school, check out the Baby hand print kit and Baby Time Capsule from http://www.timecapsule.com/product/baby-time-capsule-hand-print-kit-combo/

Put together a cute school year gift basket for your child as a gift, with a time capsule in it, plus all their other school supplies they need in the time capsule. Let them fill out the interview worksheet included in the time capsule. Don’t forget to save their lock of hair, from their first school year hair-cut, and trace their hand to save in the time capsule.

First Day of School Survival Kit

This is not your average list you are thinking of. This is not the list the school gives you as the parent to go shopping for, so your child is ready for their first day. This is a list for you, the parent, for you to survive when your child leaves for their first day of school. What do you do, when your first born goes off to school? The house is quiet for a few hours. Do you go to work, to help pass the hours? Make sure you have this survival kit handy, to help decrease those tears running down your face, as you drop off your little one at school, in their cute new outfit.

The Parent Separation-Anxiety Checklist: (for the parent)

•	Chewing gum to help you take out your anxiety and have something to concentrate on as you try to stay strong and “let it go” or let your child go, as the song sings.

•	Mini journal in the car, to help you write out your immediate feelings and thoughts. Keep this journal in your Baby Time Capsule, so your child can read what you went through, years later when he or she opens it at Graduation. What a momentous day that will be.

•	Your coffee, to now wake you up earlier in the morning than you are used to, due to bus pick-up times.

•	Make up your own interview worksheet of questions to fill out and save in a time capsule for your child. Answer questions like, Four things I currently enjoy doing, what my daily schedule looked like before you started school, where I turn to for inspiration, or favorite tv shows or music you currently listen to.

•	Create a pre-done dinner menu, so you can relax the first week of school.

•	Set out bubble bath supplies to pamper yourself after work or before your child comes home their first day of school.

•	Tissues, for those emotional moments as your child leaves you for their first day of school.

•	Your child’s favorite toy to hold on to, as your child leaves, to feel like he or she is still with you. You may even still have their childlike smell on the toy to sniff every now and then when you want your precious child there with you, to help you make it through your day.

•	Chocolate kisses, to eat and feel the soft warmth of your child’s kisses while you are away from each other. Chocolate helps anyone through their day, I hear.

•	Extra make up in your purse, to touch up your smeared mascara now running down your face from crying.

It is not easy watching your child grow, so make sure to be creative and use keepsakes like the Baby Time Capsule to save your mementos and memories for years to come. Don’t forget to take care of you as the parent too, as you child goes off to school for the first time. You cannot keep giving to them, unless you are given to also. What else do you think you would like to help you get through the separation-anxiety time? Comment below.

Are you looking for fun, unique games to play at your baby shower? I know this will be one you have never heard of, because I dreamed about it the other night, as I am getting excited to be a part of my sister-in-laws baby shower soon.

This is a great baby shower game that may take a couple of days or hours to set up, but a game that will be memorable. You will end up wanting to play this at every baby shower you go to after doing this. It is so unique.

Items Needed and Steps to Do this Memorable Game:

•	Baby Time Capsule from http://www.timecapsule.com/product/babystimecapsule/.

•	Photos of the husband and wife showing different places they have visited or things they have done together.

•	If you start this game before the baby shower event, make sure to send out RSVP cards along with instructions of how to play the game. Also be sure to ask each guest to bring one item, like newspaper clippings, headlines from popular magazines, current CD’s and popular music of the day, trends, coins, baby books or lists of popular baby names of this year, to put in the baby time capsule. Then when at the baby shower, you can have a show and tell time, about what item your brought and why or what is the special meaning behind it for this year when the baby is being born.

•	Make sure you save your gas receipt as you are driving around finding your geocache, so you can show how the prices of gas, when the child was born. Won’t that be interesting to read 20 years from now.

•	Blank note cards to write clues on, directing someone to the next clue.

•	Have several Easter eggs or something small to put your geocache items in, then hide them throughout your building or the yard where you are hosting the baby shower. You could even have the guests start the game before arriving at the baby shower, and visit favorite places, restaurants, stores, etc of where the happy couple first met, went on a date, first kissed, etc to find geocache clues to lead to the next clue or place to collect an item. Then as they collect each item, have them bring them to their end location of this geocache scavenger hunt and put the items in the Baby Time Capsule. Then the host can wrap the time capsule as a gift for the guest of honor (pregnant mother) to open. What a way to be a part of this child’s life story, before he or she is even born.

•	Put clues in the small geocache containers, along with strings attached to the coordinating picture of the couple. Bring the pictures and the item found in each geocache container to the baby shower.

•	You could have clues lead the guests to baby stores to collect or buy a baby item, or lead them to places like the park, to take a picture of themselves as guests coming to the baby shower. The ideas are endless of where to hide the geocache clues. For example, you could have one clue saying something like, “it is where you will be changing your diapers when shopping and where __________ (insert the name of who the baby shower is for) used to work.” Then you would drive to the store of where she worked, and look in the bathroom for the next clue.

•	Make sure to have each guest at the baby shower, fill out a “Message to the Future” letter with predictions, advice, tips, or funny stories to share with the future child to be born. What a special moment it will be when the baby opens their time capsule (like when he or she graduates high school), and reads all these treasured letters from each of you from the baby shower. You could also record a video on You Tube or burn a CD with audio messages from family and friends, for the baby to watch or listen to years later. Now that will be a sweet and sentimental moment to preserve forever. For a FREE Printable to use to fill out Predictions or Wishes for Baby, check out http://www.ucreateparties.com/2012/03/free-printable-baby-shower-game.html

•	The last clue will lead to the building where you are having the baby shower, or the main place where you are hiding the Baby Time Capsule in the building (if you are keeping all your clues in the same building).

•	Then put all your items collected in the Baby Time Capsule and have the host wrap the time capsule as a present to give to the new mommy to be.

•	This is one activity or game at a baby shower, that is sure to bring back happy memories of this day for years into the future.

•	When this perfect baby shower gift is opened by the soon mother to be, then she can add other items from the first year of the baby’s life, like their first baby pacifier, hospital bills, list of baby birth details like time born and weight, security blanket, and other keepsake photos from milestone moments of the first year. Then, years later in the future (like when the child graduates high-school), he or she will open their very own Baby Time Capsule. What a memorable moment that will be.

Start this fun activity now, and order your decorative Baby Time Capsule from http://www.timecapsule.com/product/babystimecapsule/. What do you wish your mother saved in a Baby Time Capsule for you? Comment below.

How to Make a School Time Capsule – Best Teacher Activity

What do you remember from your first grade year in school? A school time capsule helps slow time down, so we do not forget the milestone moments in our lives. This blog is continuing the discussion about who can use a time capsule. Who wouldn’t want a time capsule from their first school year, or any from any grade in school for this matter?

Teach students that they are in the driver seat of their lives or destiny. Time capsules can be used by teachers, to help drive this point home. You can teach interviewing skills, writing skills, and organizational skills. A time capsule is like combining the Art and English courses into one.

Think Outside the Box to Teach

As many of you teachers and parents are getting ready to start buying those back to school supplies, think about how you could use a time capsule in you lesson plans this year. You may even find yourself reminiscing about your own school years growing up, as you do this project. I know I am already thinking about the teachers who have impacted my life career decisions, as I am even typing this blog. There is so much to do, and yet the weeks fly by for the kids, parents, and teachers throughout the school year. Slow down this time, by preserving some of their special artwork, writings, or even audio speeches or videos in a time capsule.

How Can a Teacher Use a Time Capsule?

I will warn you, when you start the time capsule activity for one class, you will more than likely stir up excitement of the younger classes who will now look forward to this activity when they come to your class next year.

For First grade, you could include things like:

• All About Me questionnaire, which can include their basic bio stats
• Take a photo of their first day of school, then the last day of school to see changes
• Include a string to measure their height this first year of school, to compare to how tall he or she is when they graduate high-school.
• You can decorate your own tin, container, or box or purchase an artistic Baby Time Capsule from http://www.timecapsule.com/product/babystimecapsule/
• Ask your students to draw about what they want to be when they grow up.
• Help your kids get to know each other, by having them each share what they included in their time capsule. For a FREE Digital Download of a time capsule survey check out http://amysfinerthings.com/2011-time-capsule-printable-my-new-years-gift-to-you

For Older grades, you could include things like:

• The time capsule activity is great to have students practice their writing skills with an essay written after interviewing a family member or someone in their generational lines.
• With the social media world now, you could have students make a You Tube video or digital time capsule about their predictions or where they see themselves in 5 to 10 years. You could then evaluate the video as a speech. This may actually be a speech they would enjoy doing.
• Have students write about what they want to be when they grow up, and how they plan to make the world a better place.
• For more ideas and a sample evaluation sheet for this project, check out http://www.timesaversforteachers.com/freeforms/timecapsulesample.pdf
• You could also have each teacher from the student’s past, be writing letters to the students about how they did in their class, or where that teacher sees the student in the future. What a legacy letter or “Message to the Future” to pass on to the students in their time capsule, to open when they graduate high-school. Talk about a touching moment.

A Continuation of Milestone Moment: The Secret to Preserving Memories (How I Met My Wife). Read the previous blogs in the category called: Meeting the Love of your Life.

My time with my nieces is precious! I never seem to have enough. When I am with them, the time flies by and it is over too soon. This time was a little different though. I was actually spending 9 days with them, so it seemed like it went slower. On Sunday morning, they were all getting ready for church, and I decided to check my email. It had been several days and I really wanted to know if FaithfulGodChaser had sent me an email. To be honest, I really didn’t expect it. In my mind, I was thinking about all the reasons that I had given her not to email me. You see, I had told the truth about my life. . . I told her about being divorced and expected that a “good girl” like her would not be interested in even a friendship with someone like me. I was shocked when I opened my email . . . There it was.

I had butterflies in my stomach as I opened it up. What would it say? Would she be kind? Would she tell me to go away? I began to read her email. I didn’t even realize until later that I was biting my bottom lip with anticipation. After reading a paragraph, I looked to see if this was a short or a long email . . . To my pleasant surprise, it was huge! It took me about 30 minutes to finish reading the email. As I was closing it down, my youngest niece, Sydni, (Spelled, S-Y-D-N-I-With a dot! You do not forget her dot, or she will not be happy with you!) asked me what I was doing. I told her that I was reading an email from a girl I just met online. Even at the age of 4, she understood what this meant and she made sure the whole house knew! Uncle Mark has a girlfriend! Uncle Mark has a girlfriend!

While my relationship with the girl I now knew as Marcie was far from being a “real relationship” the taunts from the children in the house went on all day. “Mark and Marcie, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G!” We all know the song. We have all sung it at one point in our lives. I must admit, it is a little different when you are a grown man, hearing these childhood taunts. It had been 6 or 7 years since I had been in any kind of relationship, and it felt good to know that this was even a possibility.

It took me a couple of days to find the time to email her back. I stayed up late on the last night that I was there in order to send a response. I needed to think without all the tormenting from my favorite girls in the world. I carefully answered her questions and posed a few of my own. This girl seemed to have a lot of things in common with me. She was not interested in a romantic relationship, and frankly, neither was I. This was my first attempt after being divorced. There was still a lot of hurt there. While emailing with her was fun, it also brought up a lot of hurt and pain.

I drove home in quiet reflection of the email I had received while there. I thought about who this person is and what she had said. I knew in my heart that we would be good friends. I knew that God had brought her into my life for a reason. I knew that my life would never be the same just because we had talked. But I didn’t know how true those thoughts really were . . .

It would be interesting to journal about my anxiety levels (as they were very high at this point in our relationship), and watch them fall as I got to know my future wife better. Now that is a journal that would be helpful to read to my future child, to explain what it is like meeting “the one” you will marry eventually. What a fun journal to save in a time capsule. Let’s face it, it can be scary meeting someone we do not know, let alone someone online. Here is a helpful website to help you write your first (milestone moment) email back to that special someone, like I did. Check out these tips at http://www.match.com/magazine/article/8753/Send-A-Standout-Email/.

Have fun getting to know each other. Remember it is important to be friends first. Start your life story of how you met with a journal like this at https://www.etsy.com/listing/130915450/memories-from-the-day-we-met-5-x-7?ref=market. Save this journal in your Wedding Time Capsule, to open up years later (like at your 25th Anniversary) to read again, and cry or laugh together as you reminisce. Save your emails you write back and forth together, as you get to know each other, then read them years later after you get married. What a milestone moment that day will be for you both, as you reminisce and reflect on what life was like the year you first met or emailed each other.

Where did you first meet your spouse? Comment below. We love to hear your stories too.
