Your Younger Self – Flying Delorean Questions

Have you ever written a message to your younger self? Who would have guessed 20, 50, or even 100 years ago that we would be putting people on Mars in the future to live? I certainly wouldn’t have. We will be reviewing possible flying Delorean qustions you can ask yourself or others about the future. We want to help you create thought provoking questions to answer and save in your own “Any Occasion” DIY Time Capsule.

Flying Delorean: For those of you who do now know, or did not grow up in the 80’s or 90’s. This movie is a classic. This movies will be talked about for decades. This movie is “Back to the Future.” Introducing the Flying Delorean time machine or time capsule.

Great School Project Idea – Make a Time Capsule

I remember sitting in high school many times asking the age old question, “How does this relate to what I am going to do in the future?” I am sure some of you can relate. What do you think would happen if you were asked in your History or English class, “If you could travel back in history, where would you go and why?”

You can buy an “Any Occasion” DIY Time Capsule and start answering your question today, filling out the “Message to the Future” stationary included. Put any photo of yourself on the outside of the time capsule. Decorate it on the outside of this tin, with other pictures of things that describe you, or draw and paint on the outside designing your own beautiful artwork. Inside the time capsule, save your favorite mementos and memorabilia that describes what life is like now.

So, If you could travel back in history, were would you go and why?

Favorite vacation you had as a kid

Favorite event you went to as a kid

Friend’s house

Relive a birthday party as someone’s home

A specific mundane day you remember vividly with your family or friends

etc.

This question can be answered as deep as someone wants to. Some people have grown up with their parents who have passed away at a young age. Some of us wonder why we are the way we are, and want to know more about our own parents and how they were raised to see the similarities. Some of us enjoy the more simple things in life, and would like to go back to a world without computers or cell phones.

Video of Message to the Future Advice

Have students fill out an essay answering this profound question. It is a Flying Delorean question. If you could go back in time, what would you tell yourself? Here is an encouraging video to watch for those who may be going to college soon. Learn from those in this video who have already written a “Message to the Future” message to their selves.

When thinking about the childhood, teenage, and past adult years, I would maybe tell myself:

It is ok to be different.

Connect with friends who actually have similar interests.

Surround yourself with others who are smarter than you. Learn from the wise.

Invest in your future, and read books that will help you move forward in life.

Stop following social expectations all the time. Be yourself.

Don’t wait until you get too stressed before you get help.

Remember high-school is not for forever.

It will get better.

Take care of yourself.

Live each day as if the last.

Plug in to a great mentor program.

Surround yourself with friends of similar faith.

Let go of power and outsource.

Stop fighting. Be the bigger person and accept constructive criticism. Do something about it. Don’t just sit there.

Set your goals and break them up in smaller chunks. Reward yourself along with way.

Give back and help others. It helps you be more thankful and grateful for things in your life.

etc.

Now, of course you cannot change the past, however you can learn from the past. Because you cannot change your past, you can also write a “Message to the Future” letter about what you would want to read or hear about, or view what you accomplished in life by the time you are 90 years old. Basically, it is like a bucket list question. For another great blog on this subject, check out How to Make a Bucket List for Your Time Capsule.

Angie called our office to order a second baby time capsule. She and her husband were told almost 16 years ago they could not get pregnant. Three months later, they were pregnant. Angie is now pregnant with their second child. When their first daughter turns 16 in a few weeks, they will present her with the first time capsule. Three weeks after their first daughter’s birth, Angie’s grandfather passed away. Before he died, he wrote Angie’s first child a “Message to the Future” (TM) and placed it inside her time capsule. What a precious moment that will be when Angie’s daughter opens her time capsule and finds her great grandfather’s hand-written letter to her with a picture of him holding her in the hospital. Memories like this are the original legacy that we leave our customers. Each time capsule is original in of themselves, as they are personalized with love.

This story could be you too. Please do not wait until it is too late for your children to remember who their grandparents were, what their background was like, and the opportunity for them to relive what life was like when your grown child was a baby.

We are going to discuss how to put together a time capsule for you to store in a hidden closet or display in your home. We are not going to talk about a time capsule you bury. This is another subject, for a different blog for the future. Besides, if you have a time capsule in your home, you never have to worry about forgetting where you buried it. Also, when you move, you do not have to dig it up. Just take it with you where ever you go.

What you Need to Put Together a Time Capsule

Just like a recipe has ingredients there are a few things that can help you put together your own time capsule.

shoe box, cylinder container of some kind, or you can purchase an “Any Occasion” DIY Time Capsule here to easily and quickly get started.

Stationary paper and pen

Camera

Video recorder

Printer

Markers

Stickers

Pictures

Scrapbook embellishments or crafts

Popular toys

Newspaper

Magazines

TV guide

Current ads

Jewelry

Journal

Photographs

Souvenirs or other favorite things

Cards or Letters

Steps to Put Together a Time Capsule

1. Decorate the outside of your time capsule with anything you want. If you choose to purchase the “Any Occasion” DIY Time Capsule, you can use markers, stickers, or any artwork you want to print out on the included sticker sheets to wrap around the outside of your time capsule. You can even download your own photos from social media, phone, or computer and print them out on the sticker sheets included to wrap on the outside of your DIY Time Capsule.

2. Look around your house, your friend’s house, out in public, at your grandparents house, etc to find items that are sentimental and you want to save in your time capsule. Choose items that you think will preserve well. For example, do not keep food in your time capsule (yes, even a twinkie), because it will not last 10, 20, or 50 years from now.

3. Spend some time writing a “Message to the Future” letter to yourself about what you think you will be doing several years from now. How many kids do you think you will have? Will you get married? Where will you live? What will college life be like? Do you really think people will be living on Mars in the future? These are just some examples of questions to get you started.

4. Place all your meaningful items in the time capsule. You may even include an inventory list, explaining whey you put each item in your time capsule. Then seal up your time capsule using tape, stickers, or any other creative device you can think of.

5. Think of a date in the future when you want to open the time capsule? Write that date on the outside of your time capsule, or use the date stickers included in our time capsules at www.TimeCapsule.com to fill in the section of the lid to the time capsule, which says “Do Not Open Until …..” You fill in the date.

6. Pick a place to store you time capsule. Do you want it proudly displayed on your shelf in a room, showing off your beautiful artwork on the outside, or do you want it hidden in a closet so you forget about it? Either way, make sure you set a reminder on a calendar online, like a Google Calendar, to remind you when to open it in the future. You can even schedule a future email to be sent to you reminding you to open the time capsule.

7. Most importantly, have fun making your time capsule. This is a time of reflection and remembrance.

So, what would you put in your time capsule? Comment below.

Ways to Honor, Remember, and Celebrate Our Presidents

It is a day to honor, remember, and celebrate. It’s President’s Day. I am sure some of you are ready to go out shopping to get your great deals. President’s Day is also important to celebrate for other reasons. I know not everyone likes our current president. We are not here to get in a big debate about everything going right or wrong. No matter what, honestly, I cannot imagine the pressures of being the president. This President’s Day, we are going to focus on creative ways to honor, remember, and celebrate our presidents over time.

President’s Day is a perfect time to reflect on the past. History is important so that we do not make the same mistakes twice. We want to learn from those who have gone before us, from those who lead us, and from those who are making an impact in the world. I was one of those students who used to sit in my history classes, thinking, “when does this class end?” Now, as I am older, I have a deep respect for history and wish I payed attention more in class. Sometimes it can be helpful to find creative ways to make learning fun and memorable.

Time Capsules Teach

Have kids write what they think it would be like to be the president. Interview your own family members and ask them what they remember about the presidents when they grew up? How was the world different in the past, with those presidents. President’s Day is a time to reconnect and reminisce about the leaders who have changed this country. My parents always taught me the importance of honoring our leaders. One fun way to do that is through a time capsule.

A time capsule is all about reminiscing about our past. The time capsule could be used as a teaching tool for parents and teachers in school. Help the kids create a history timeline about the past presidents. For a creative example of this, check out this link.

Leaders Teach about Positive Traits

Leaders, like our presidents can teach us all about positive traits we should aspire to have. What better way to teach your kids about positive virtues and characteristic traits are important to have, to make an impact in this world or to better themselves in the future. As you teach about these important traits, you can help your child dress up like our great presidents in the past using old toilet paper rolls, seen in the picture above. Have fun bonding as a family, and teaching your child about history at the same time. What traits would you like to see in your child? Who in their lives are influencing them for the better? Teach your kids to constantly find friends and adult to be around who are wise, educated, positive influences, etc.

What to Make and Put in a President’s Day Time Capsule

Have kids answer questions about President’s Day on fun worksheets, or write an essay about what they think the President does all day. You could also have the kids talk about what they think the future world will look like, and how the President will run the country. Have the kids write a letter to the president. You may be surprised by some of the answers, depending on the age of the child. Can you imagine what the reaction of that child would be years in the future, when the President’s Day Time Capsule was opened by their elementary teacher, who then mailed their old essays to the adults 20 years later to read? It is amazing how different we think as children, compared to when we are adults. Save these fun letters, worksheets, essays, and kids crafts in the time capsule. Also save other mementos and memorabilia to open 20, 30, or 50 years later. It will be interesting to see which kids predictions come true about future presidents when the time capsule is opened in the future. Get your own “Any Occasion” DIY Time Capsule today to make your own President’s Day Time Capsule or a time capsule for any other topic or event you want.

Father’s day is just around the corner. What are you going to do? Why not create something different this year, and make it an unforgettable gift that lasts a lifetime.

Record your memories in a book, scrapbook, audio file, etc. That is what a dad really wants – to know he is loved and appreciated.

There are so many stories I remember with my father, like helping make homework fun, to the point that now I love math. I used to cry myself through the math homework, but because of my father’s patience and creativity, he took on my challenge to turn math into games, to help me remember better. What do you remember the most about your father?

How to Remember and Thank your Father

Not everyone will have a happy Father’s day. For some it is a painful reminder that dad is no longer around. It does not have to be that way though. You can still honor your dad by leaving a legacy and telling your children stories about their grandfather. Create a memory book for him. While you miss your father, help yourself through the continued grieving journey and explain to your children what all you learned from him, passing on his wisdom, insight, funny stories or jokes.

Thank your Father with Photos and Memories – Help Keep Traditions Alive

Whether your dad is with you still or not, plan the best Father’s day this year with a gift of shared stories and mementos. Create a gift to pass on from one generation to another, telling your father’s history and contribution to your family. Create a time capsule for your dad.

What to Put in a Time Capsule for your Dad. Make Unique Father’s Day Keepsake Gifts.

A time capsule for your father, is the most personalized gift you will ever give him. You can make this a family gift, having your mother or siblings help, or make is special only from you. Look around your house, your mother’s house, in your old photo albums, in his secret cave man rooms of fun, to find things to put in the time capsule. Ask family members and his own friends to fill out letters or “Message to the Future” notes about where they predict he will be later on in life.

Other Things to Include in Dad’s Time Capsule

• Stories about funny or sentimental moments you had with your father (written or voice recorded).

• Then and Now photos of your father.

• Written letters to him about milestone moments in his life or how he was there for you in your life for meaningful events.

• Include an “All About my Dad” worksheet to fill out for family members.

Download this FREE Printable “All About My Dad” for you kids to have fun filling out. Get it at http://allforthememories.com/blog/2011/6/7/free-fathers-day-printable.html

• Play a practical joke on him, and put it in the time capsule. You know you owe him for all the jokes he played on you.

• Include your dad’s favorite magazine or newspaper in the time capsule (so when he opens it about 20 years later, he can read about his interests in the past and what life was like then at that time.)

• Current photos of your dad’s house, before he does anymore remodeling. You could also include a picture of his current car he is driving, which will change in the future.

• School projects or drawings from you or your siblings of your dad or made for your father.

• Ticket stubs from special movies seen, or places you went with your father.

• Anything special from his job, to show his accomplishments in life at this time.

These are just a few suggestions to get you started on such a memorable activity and gift for Father’s day. You could even have fun and hide the time capsule in your home, then set up a geocaching game to have him find his own gift, then open the time capsule to see what is inside. Keep in mind, this time capsule can be closed again after he opens it on Father’s day, to be displayed for several more years into the future, when you and your siblings get to decide when he opens it again. When he reopens the time capsule again, in the future, it will be like re-living and re-celebrating this Father’s day all over again. What a fun moment that will be to see whose predictions were right (in your letters), or to just listen to the stories all over again and see how much your dad has changed.

Top 10 Reasons to Make a Time Capsule for Alzheimer Patient

Memories are some of the most special moments we want to treasure forever. That is more difficult for us all, as we get older.

“She just does not seem to be all there anymore. She is forgetting more. She is having a hard time recognizing me as her daughter. She is forgetting my name.” – my Aunt complained to my mother over the phone. My aunt was living in Texas with my grandmother, and my mom (her sister) lives in Indiana. It was heart retching knowing there was very little my mother could do, to help my Aunt and Grandmother, in Indiana.

What To Do To Help the Older Generation

Despite our distance, my grandmother and I were close. She prayed for my future husband for years, wherever he was in life, to be ready for me mentally, emotionally, and physically. Her prayers worked as I found “the one.” How could I ever give back to my grandmother who was an Alzheimer patient. I do not wish this problem, or any other memory disorder, on anyone. It is hard to deal with, as family members let alone being the actual person trying to live through this struggle.

How a Memory Box or Time Capsule Helps

Even though my family lived far away from my grandmother, that does not mean we could not help. We helped my Aunt recall memories, wrote down stories we remembered, recorded our voices, and of course as grandchildren created homemade cards for grandma.

A memory box or time capsule can do a similar function to help. What would you put in a memory box to stir up a loved one’s memory, emotions, and thoughts?

A Memory Box or Time Capsule helps us all Recall the Past

Include things like:

• Newspaper clipping of special events, or marriage announcement

• Postcards of places visited

• Favorite recipes (maybe even take the time then to make the recipe together)

• A letter from each of you as family members thanking your loved one for all he or she has done for you.

• Family photos

• Special necklace or watch your loved one constantly used to wear

• Video of your loved one growing up. Go through the video slowly pausing to say each person’s name (especially if they are family members) to help your loved one recall names with faces.

• Hobbies your loved one usually does (for example: a sample of his or her quilt or a golf ball)

• Include items which an Alzheimer’s patient loves or boosts their self-esteem. Things that give your loved one their identity back.

• A memory box or time capsule can help an Alzheimer’s patient on all sensory levels. Include things that relate to all their senses. For example, maybe include their favorite perfume or cologne in a small bottle.

This is a fun activity to do for the family, as much as it is for your loved one to open the memory box or time capsule. You all get to share sentimental moments with each other, bonding closer and inspiring conversation about the nostalgic items. Whatever you include in your memory box or time capsule, make sure it reflects the senior’s loves, interests, and significant or milestone moments in the history of their lives, and has strong meaning to him or her. You may want to include an inventory checklist of each item you include with a tag on each item with the story associated with each nostalgic memento. This will help your loved one be able to read and review things on their own time too.

If everything goes well, memory boxes are a great means to help an alzheimer’s patient, because when a senior sees one memory trigger, it may help them recall another memory to talk about. You may even find out something new about them, that you had no idea about.

How to use a Time Capsule for Homeschool History Lessons

We all get so busy with life, school, and work that we forget how quickly the world changes. We also take many things for granted and forget or neglect to not important times in our lives. World events, milestone moments, and memories are defining moments in our lives we need to always make sure we preserve for years into the future.

Many important and historical events define the times we live in. Where were you when 9/11 happened? Ask any baby-boomer where he or she was when John F. Kennedy was shot, and they will know immediately. What about where they were when they heard Michael Jackson died? These tragic and milestone moments in our lives are impressed on our consciousness, yet many times we forget about them too quickly.

Journal for your Homeschool History Lessons

It is important to journal observations about the times you live in. Learn from your history, so we do not repeat it. That is why for all you home school parents, it is important to teach about history. What is a fun way to do that? How do you help your child put themselves in a person’s shoes from the past? Help your child note how he or she sees or experiences events, and how they have touched their lives.

The fun part – Using a Time Capsule

What child does not eventually ask about where they came from? We all are usually interested in our own genealogy or family history. You could make a family scrapbook together, create your family tree, but what is something more tangible to save our history lessons in?

A time capsule helps you keep 3D type objects or memorabilia in it. You can save things, that you cannot necessarily keep in a scrapbook and close the pages. History is filled with tangible objects to collect, write stories about, or recreate updated versions of these objects. Have your children talk and even interview grandparents, aunts and uncles, or other significant people of the past, to find out what life was like when they grew up as a child. Capture these discussions on audio or have the kids learn to journal about what they learn. Then, save these treasured conversations in a time capsule, while teaching about the importance of history, and passing on a legacy. You could even create a timeline of your own family events showing history on a long paper or banner strung throughout your house for fun. Have the kids create other crafts, and act out a scene in history. Record this event on video and save this in a time capsule, for your child to watch years later when he or she opens the time capsule like at their high-school graduation. What an event in history that will be. For an example to get your kids started on a time capsule lesson about medieval times, check out http://www.homeschool-your-boys.com/unitstudies.html

How to Interview Your Grandparents for a Time Capsule

Who can use a time capsule? – Grandparents

This blog is just the beginning to many in this series. Keep checking back to see who else, specifically, can use a time capsule. A time capsule can be for ages birth on up. It is something you do not want to limit by age, because each age has sentimental memories and items of value to preserve in a time capsule. What was one of your favorite memories in your childhood, compared to your most treasured moment in adulthood?

Every summer of my childhood, my brothers and I rode our bikes to our grandma and grandpa’s house, about 2.5 miles away from our home. We could always count on candy or cookies there. It was like a reward for our exercise to get there. Your ancestor’s stories are told at your grandparent’s house. Their home is like its own time capsule, especially if it is a home where they grew up themselves. That is my grandmother’s experience. She still lives in the home she grew up in, having fun, as a kid.

This is a picture of my cousins, two brothers, and I in front of my Grandma’s house. Good times there.

As we all get older, family stories take on an increasing importance. Our children turn to us t o tell them where they came from. What does your family value? How do you feel about each other? Photos can only go so far to tell your stories. A story with your facial expressions, tone of voice, while holding an actual objet from the story in that photograph, makes old times come alive again. Photographs are only the starting point for capturing great stories. Great story tellers and motivational speakers know this is true.

How to Interview your Grandparents using a Recorder.

Imagine if you lost your memory, would photos be enough to help you remember? Tangible objects or actual items can help you regain meaning of what life was like for you in the past. What tangible items would you put in your time capsule? Also make sure to include a descriptive audio recording or story about your family history. For 50 sample questions to ask your grandparents, check out the interview ideas at http://genealogy.about.com/cs/oralhistory/a/interview.htm or check out the FREE Printable worksheet of questions at http://www.thehouseofhendrix.com/2013/05/25/lessons-i-learned-when-you-turned-100/.

How to do a Time Capsule Baby Shower Theme

Ok, so you are getting ready for a fun-filled day with you good friends and family. You are looking for those cute, memorable, baby shower theme ideas. Make your baby shower last into the future….even your child’s future. What else can you do, besides play games at the baby shower?

How to set up a Time Capsule Baby Shower Theme:

A baby time capsule is a great idea to help your child look back later in life, after they open it, to get a precious glimpse into what life was like when they were a child. This can be a real emotional and laughter filled experience once the time capsule is opened, like at his or her 18th or 21st birthday.

Have each guest coming to the baby shower, fill out a “Message to the Future” letter of their hopes and predictions for the future for the child being celebrated at the baby shower. Life and time changes fast, and we all get busy as the years go by, so capture this moment at your baby shower, to save those special items for your child in a baby time capsule.

Ask your guests to each bring something small to add to the time capsule. Some suggestions include:

– Baby shoes
– Security blanket
– Book
– Newspaper of the year of their birth
– Personal letters
– Etc.

For other great ideas and suggestions, check out this link at http://www.circleofmoms.com/march-2009-babies/a-baby-time-capsule-great-idea-613471. You can also do a First Birthday Time Capsule Party with sample pages to fill out like this photo at http://briannalouise.wordpress.com/tag/birthday-party-theme/.

History is important to all of us, even though I did not enjoy my history classes in school. Now that I look back, I wish I kept more from my history and paid attention more to what I was reading in class. We can all learn from our history. We all have a curiosity about where we came from and what happened when we were younger. That is why most people like to look at and share photographs to family and friends. Photographs are a way to tell history, to tell stories, to tell about your character and upbringing.

A time capsule can help describe history, the story, and your character or personality with tangible, important, and memorable items kept inside. Make sure you label each photo you put inside the time capsule and put dates on them, so you know those details years later.

Your vows are some of the most important words you will ever say to your husband or wife. There are many different and unique ways to save and display your vows.

Filled with so much emotion during your wedding day, sometimes your vows can also be the hardest words to say. Vows are words of commitment and love.

How to Display your Vows:

1.	Type them over one of your favorite photos, and then frame it. What a great reminder daily, in your home, of your undying love for each other.

2.	Display those memorable words on your Wedding Cake. Make sure you take a picture of this beautiful art before you cut into it and endulge. Check out this awesome cake from http://www.sweetandsaucyshop.com/wedding-cakes-gallery/

3.	Write your vows out on your wedding day aisle runner, then use it as a great backdrop for a wedding photo. Watch the video of how to make this vow backdrop at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_8pWyyXDA0

4.	Embroider your vows, and then frame your crafty artwork of love forever. Making this will give you plenty of time to think about the words you say at your wedding and what they truly mean.

5.	Keep them in a decorative Wedding Time Capsule, to open years later at a special anniversary to read again. Relive history and the day of your wedding by renewing your vows on that anniversary. Take the other items out of your wedding time capsule and set up your same wedding day display all over again to reminisce about your special day of love. Fill out the special “Message to the Future” letters included to each other to read on that anniversary date of celebration. You can get your Wedding Time Capsule from http://www.timecapsule.com/product/weddingtimecapsule/
