What was life like when you were born? Would you rather go forward or backward in time? Can time travel really even be done? As they always said in the good old day, “inquiring minds want to know.” Who remembers that saying? Let’s dive into these 12 future time travel questions.

Today we are discussing reasons why it would be interesting or a good thing to go forward in time.

1. To see if you get married or not. What happens in your marriage in the future? Should you stay with the guy you are currently with if you could see into the future what happens? How would you date differently today, if you knew what would happen in the future?

2. Would you have kids if you knew what you would be going through today with your kids? Would you have more or less kids? How would you have handled your job differently if you knew it was going to start interfere with the time you have available to spend with your kids?

3. Would you have tried to get a different job or continue to go to college to be able to get your dream job if you knew what would happen to you in the future? Would you have stepped down your role at your career?

4. What about kids in your neighborhood, school, church, or other social places that you could have mentored, but chose not to? What if you could see what happens to them in the future and how would that have changed your thoughts about mentoring?

5. Just like toothpaste will not go back into that tube, once you say words, good or bad, they cannot go back into your mouth as if they were never said. So, what words would you say differently if you could see into the future? Would you purposefully teach yourself to pause and think before you speak a little more?

6. If you could see when someone close to you was going to pass away, would you spend more time with them? Would you have deeper conversations about your life and memories, rather than what the weather is going to be like for the week? Would you plan to do more bonding activities, or take more vacations together? Would you reconnect with some old friends of the past? Would you ask for forgiveness or make amends sooner if you knew what was going to happen to you or them in the future?

7. What new things will be invented in the future? Would you start doing things differently with your photos, phone, or daily work or school life if you knew there would be better technology just around the corner in the future?

8. Would you start exercising and eating healthier more if you knew what you were going to look like in the future, 10, 30, or 50 years from now? Stop something bad before it happens.

9. What will medical technology look like in the future? Would it cure your disease? If you knew there would be a cure, would you worry less?

10. You could see where you are wasting time in your life, and devote it to different things. For example, would you read a book instead of watching a TV show every night before bed? Would you go out in public more instead of sleeping away your sorrows?

11. Would you have saved more money before you bought that car you just had to have? Would you have waited a couple of years before you bought your first home, if you could see in the future that it went into foreclosure?

12. You can see if you still need a cell phone or not? What will be the latest gadgets in the future? Will you be able to have a robot as a maid in your home? I know if I had that, I could get a lot more done.

We hope you had fun reflecting on these 12 future time travel questions. It may sound like a cool idea to be able to time travel to the future, but you would miss out on the excitement of things being surprises. It is like peeking to see what your Christmas present is, before you are suppose to open it. It takes away some of the fun in life. Of course it would be nice to go forward in time, but until that invention is made in the future, we have to accept that we cannot do that. You can however write a letter to your future self, today. You can write a “Message to the Future” letter in which you talk about where you see yourself in the future. You can answer all the questions listed above in this blog. You can predict what will happen to you in the future.

Put this letter in an “Any Occasion” DIY Time Capsule that you decorate yourself. You can paint on the outside of the time capsule, write on it, draw, or put any picture you want on it. Then, 10, 20, or 50 years from now, you can read this letter and see if your predictions came true. Get your DIY Time Capsule here, and start today.

So if you had to choose, would you go back in time or forward in time? Comment below.

The picture above is a beautiful scene of a nighttime celebration of life, releasing sky lanterns for their loved one lost. How emotionally touching is this view?

Growing up in a family owned business, that deals with the casket industry has always caused me to think about those less unfortunate, those who have lost a loved one, and those who have a hard time letting go.

It really is true, that you do not know what you have until it is gone. I have heard many sad stories of family members arguing with each other while trying to work with the funeral director to pick out which casket they want. My family never dealt with the families. We only worked with the funeral directors themselves. Sometimes the poor funeral directors have seen and heard so much, that they just have to tell someone else the stories. Unfortunately my mother, who is a great listener and secretary of our family owned Casket manufacturing company, was the one who got to listen to their stories about the families.

We at The Original Time Capsule company want to say that we are listening to your problems and are trying to find ways to solve them. We have heard from funeral directors that there are not many ways for families to remember their loved ones in a tangible way, once they are gone.

Preserve Loved Ones Old Letters

What advice did your grandfather always tell you as a child? What was the funniest story he ever told you? How do you remember your grandmothers famous apple crumb pie recipe once she is gone (especially if she made it from scratch)? What do you do with all those old war letters that your dad wrote back and forth to your mom before they were married? These are just a few of the questions that are important to treasure to pass on to your grandchildren and their children of the future. So how do you do that?

Use Social Media to Share your Story

With so many more funeral homes taking advantage of the internet and social media world, it is important for funeral homes to have other new and upcoming ways to help families grieve and remember a loved one. This is why so many funeral homes are now including dedicated pages on their websites, for family members to fill out messages of hope, condolences, and stories of the past of loved ones who have gone on to rest in peace.

Set Up a Personalized Celebration of Life Ceremony

How does a funeral home truly set up a memorial service, when they really do not know the person? How do you help that family truly create a celebration of life for their loved one? Families need a tangible way to memorialize their loved one. Set up a uniquely personal tribute to your loved one, and let the family work through the process of grief, by decorating a table with several heirloom memories, like your grandfather’s old pocket watch. Set out note cards for family and friends to fill out and tell a short story or memory about the deceased loved one, to pass on to the family to read later. Many times it is hard for some to go to a viewing, or let go, so a great way to help someone say goodbye, is by letting them write a letter to their deceased loved one. Many people tell you to “just get over it.” You never really ‘get over it,’ but instead grief is a process or journey if you will that will either make you better or bitter.

Create a Memorial Time Capsule

You can set up memory boards, candles, and wreaths, but what do you do with it all when it is done? Don’t just stand in a line to say your goodbye at a viewing, then leave. Don’t just help take care of the family during that next week by bringing them a meal already cooked. Do something extra to let the family know how much you appreciated that loved one in your life, or to say thank you to the loved one who passed. The loved one who is now gone, can be kept alive by keeping his or her legacy life alive. So how do you do that?

Set up a memory table similar to the one here, with special tangible items on it. Then also add a personalize Legacy Time Capsule on it, for family members and friends to put there cards, words of encouragement, and sentimental items of their loved one in. You can get an “Any Occasion” DIY Time Capsule here, then put a photo of your loved one on the outside of this luxury tin, to preserve all these treasured memories in.

During the holidays it is always hard to celebrate, be happy, and open gifts, without that special someone there anymore. This is especially hard if your loved one passed on a particular holiday. Reopen the time capsule on that holiday, hold one of their tangible mementos or memorabilia, to help you get through this difficult time of year. The time capsule is meant to help with this problem, and keep your loved one alive more so than just in your heart. Revive your memories today of your loved one.

So if you had the opportunity to keep one sentimental item from your grandfather, father, or any loved one who has passed, what would it be? Comment below.

3 Things Kids of Today will Never Experience

What are some things you can think of that kids of today will never experience? Ok, so I finally saved enough money to buy my very first car. I knew there was no way my parents would buy me a car. I wanted to look cool. I wanted to fit in. I wanted to have a car by my 16th birthday too, just like everyone else. It was nothing fancy, but I was proud not necessarily because I had a car, but because I worked hard helping my parents with chores at home, and at my job to save enough money to buy an old ’87 white Ford Tempo. My work ethic has not stopped, and I am forever grateful to my parents for that. I have learned so much from my good old days.

One day I was on my way to youth group at church, and my car died. Does anyone remember the days of having to use a pay phone (if you could find a working one), just to call for someone like your dad, to come and save the day? That is exactly what I had to do. I got out of my car, walked a ways down the road to a gas station, and had to use a pay phone. I did not have a convenient cell phone back then.

Remember the Good Old Days

Do you miss the good old days? I know I do. There are many things that come to mind when people just mention the 80’s or 90’s. There were good and bad memories tied into these times. It always starts with a parent or grandparent saying, “I remember when I was a kid…” and then my cousins and I would fill in the sentence saying, “…you walked up the hill both ways to go to school.” Then, that was always followed by a big laugh.

I cannot believe that I am now old enough to be telling stories of ‘the good old days.’ That was never suppose to happen to me. I was suppose to stay young forever. Times really have changed. I remember telling my parents when I was in high-school, “Mom, Dad, if this is how the world is now, what will it be like when I have kids?” My parents told me later, it was a wise, scary question for a young teenager to be thinking about.

I have always been the person who thinks about the future. The person who makes decisions based on what will be the consequences or rewards, in the future, if I make this choice in my life now. I know not everyone is like that, but when you grow up in a family that does not have much, you tell yourself at a young age that you never want to live like this in the future.

Don’t get me wrong, I am beyond grateful for not having much, because it pushed me more to work hard to acquire much in the future. It seems like in my family who could not afford the latest and greatest video games, time was slower because we were able to concentrate on being more creative with each other. My brothers and I had to come up with creative games to play. We had to learn how to make chores fun, to the point that we ended up wanting to do them for free for our parents out of respect and boredom sometimes.

1. A World Without Cell Phones and Computers

Soon there will no longer be a generation who remembers growing up without cell phones and computers. What a scary thought. Remember when the hashtag sign, actually meant pound. So how long do you think it will take for a phone auto attendant to say push “hashtag” instead of “pound” to reach whomever you are trying to call or your account information. I also remember constant yelling in our house back and forth between my brothers and I, “get off the internet, so I can use the phone.” I am not even going to bring up how long it took to download songs on the internet in the past.

2. Black and White TVs

Who remembers the TV when it was black and white? Who remembers renting VCR tapes, instead of DVD’s? Who would have thought that you can now watch so many movies and tv shows off of your computer, let alone for free now. I remember the saying on the VCR tapes that said, ‘Please be kind, Rewind.’ Hopefully I am not giving away my age too much.

3. A World Without GPS

Who remembers having to pull out the big, bulky folding map or atlas in the car just to find out where you were, let alone where you were going? We did not have GPS back in the past. I guess the long lost joke about a guy never stopping to ask someone for directions is no longer needed, since everyone has a GPS now. Forget about even trying to fold your map back up when you are done. It is so convenient now to just turn your GPS off when you are done using it.

So what stories do you remember of the past? How do you keep these stories alive? Why not try making your own Family Time Capsule with the “Any Occasion” DIY Time Capsule from http://www.timecapsule.com/product/milestone-collection-any-occasion-diy-time-capsule/.
