The Best Way to Experience the Past

Have you ever wondered, what is the best way to experience the past? How old are you? Do you remember where you were and what you were doing when you heard that America had been attacked on 9/11? What about Columbine High School? Do you remember what you were doing when JFK was shot? What about when Ronald Regan was shot?

What about a more happy memory . . . Do you remember where you were when you first realized that you had fallen in love? Who was your first love? Did you marry that person? What was going through your mind when you found out you were going to have a baby? Were you happy? Apprehensive? Scared?

What about events that happened before your time? How can you experience those moments in history? Is there a way that you can feel what others were feeling when you were not there? I believe you can. There are actually many ways to experience moments in history, but one of the best is by talking to those who were there!

JFK was shot on November 22, 1963. I wasn’t born until May 1, 1975. I remember being taught about his assassination in grade school, but I didn’t understand the full impact of this event until much later in life. I knew the facts, but I didn’t understand the emotion, nor did I understand why I should care. Until I really experienced the event for myself.

Now, I know what you are thinking . . . How could I experience this event for myself when it happened before I was born? I experienced it through the eyes of my great-grand-mother, Alice. Alice had always had a picture of JFK hanging on her wall. Even when she moved out of her home and into a retirement community, she always made sure to have her picture of JFK. Yes, she kept pictures of her kids, and grandkids as well, but I never really understood why she kept the picture of JFK. He wasn’t family, she had never met him in person, it wasn’t signed, but it was incredibly important to her.

One day, I asker her. I asked why he was so important to her. She proceeded to tell me a story that I was truly unprepared to hear. She told me about a young man who was smart and funny. About a man who could out-think is opponent. She told me about a man with charisma and charm. She told me about a man with vision and passion. A man the believed in a world where we could do anything, including set foot on another planet, if we joined together in one united goal. Then, she told me about that man being removed from the earth before his time by a person with too much hate and anger in his life.

After hearing her words, I began to understand several things . . . The first is how she felt in the moment. The second is why this man was so important to her. The third is that there is no event that I cannot experience if I ask the right questions of the right people.

Is there an event that you would like to know more about? Find someone who was there and invite them to dinner or for a cup of lemonade or coffee. Pull up a chair and begin asking questions. Find out what was going on. Talk about how they felt and what they saw. Dive deep into the moment. If you can, record it so you can review it again later for things you may have missed. The internet has a ton of information about history, but that doesn’t allow you to really experience the moment.

When an important event happens in your life, you can be proactive and preserve the memories and moments now with our Any Occasion DIY Time Capsule. Use it to write letters to the future and customize it for your event. Save the moment, and share it with someone in the future.

Summer Water

What do you like do with summer water from sprinklers, pools, lakes, oceans, squirt guns, etc to stay cool? It is amazing to me how different things are now from when I grew up. When I was growing up, we didn’t have the internet. Cell phones were for wealthy business people and were usually attached to a car. And we sat down most evenings to eat as a family. We joked every year that our Spring Break from school it would rain. (Although, in our house, my mother has a curse that requires rain any time we plan something outside . . . especially camping!)One of the worst things that could happen to us growing up, was to have a summer rain day. We hated it! Could there be anything more annoying? A beautiful summer day . . . perfect for playing outside . . . wasted on account of rain! We were forced to live the day inside, without being able to run and play. Being forced to play Atari (Video Games) or watch TV.Yes, we were able to have our friends over, but that still didn’t get out all the built up energy we had stored inside. I mean, that is what summer if for, isnt’ it?

As an adult, this tragedy doesn’t grip me the way it did when I was a child. It is most likely because, as an adult, I do not get a summer break from work. I am forced to do my job day in and day out all year long, waiting patiently for the 1 week a year when I can take my vacation.

About 15 year ago, when I was living with a friend, John, it began to rain on one of these summer evenings. He was dating another friend of mine, Mel, and she had come over this particular evening. I was in my home office working away and she came in and shouted, “Lets go play in the rain!” I laughed. So, she said it again. I laughed again.

Summer Water Games for Kids and Adults

This spawned a 20 minute conversation about why, as an adult, I was not going to go play in the rain. Finally, she ended the conversation, and won the argument, by shouting, “You apparently are too old! When you decide you want to be a kid for a little longer, join me.”

Now, I don’t know if she knew that I would give in and join her or not, but what I do know is that I did. We spent about 90 minutes playing in the front yard, getting muddy and splashing around. We laughed, played tag and Hide-and-seed which are really dumb with only 2 people! We had a blast! My friend, and her boyfriend, watched from the front room of the house and just shook his head. He didn’t see the fascination with the rainfall and certainly did not want to get cold, wet, or muddy. It was one of the best days I have had, as an adult.

As a child, I can remember wanting to relive those kinds of days more often than it rains here in Indiana. (Although, this year, I would have no problems finding the days to play in the rain as it has rained more this year than in any other year in history!) As a result, we learned to play in the sprinkler. Here is an interesting blog that even provides games to play in the sprinkler: Games. Make sure you continue to pass on these fun old games you played as a kid, to your own children by taking photos, and writing down how to play some of your favorite water games. Pass on this fun in a Time Capsule to your own children, so your grandchildren can also know how to play these games, or any other summer water games you make up as a family. Get a time capsule today, here, to save your memories in for years to come.

The simplest things in life can bring the greatest amount of joy. I wish that my mom had taken pictures of us playing in the sprinklers when I was little. I would like to relive that more now that I am an adult, but that doesn’t mean we cannot still do it now. Even my dog loves to play in the sprinklers on a hot summer day. I find this to be an incredibly amusing thing to even watch today. (Although it has been suggested that my dog is more trying to “attack” the water than to “play in it!”)If you have kids, be sure to spend some time making memories in a sprinkler with them. Take some photos and keep them in your family time capsule. If you don’t have kids, spend some time in the sprinkler anyway! We need to revert to our childish behaviors every now and then just to remind us how to have fun and be a kid! I believe the old saying, “Growing old is required. Growing up is optional!”

Feelings

Feelings are important to everyone. It is true. People will forget what you said to them and all the good things you do,
but they will never forget how you make them feel. It doesn’t matter what you say or do. It doesn’t matter how many world or local records you hold. It doesn’t matter how big of an audience you have . . . If you cannot make people feel loved and cared about, they will never remember you.

I have worked with youth through our church for many years. I volunteered under a man named Doug and he soon handed the reigns of the ministry over to a man named Tim. Tim was a great man. Not because of all the wonderful things he did. Not because of all the wonderful things he said. He wasn’t a particularly great guitar player, nor was he an eloquent speaker. Tim was a great man because he knew how to connect with people to make them feel like they were important.

As a young man, in my early twenties, he took the time to truly mentor me. We would go out and minister to people, then we would “hang out” as friends. Our main program was on Friday nights and after all the kids had left, all of the adults would head out to a late-night-restaurant like Applebee’s to hang out and talk. This interaction taught me that life is not always about what you do.

Tim had an amazing gift for making me feel uncomfortable. While this sounds like a bad thing, it wasn’t. The reality is that Tim wanted to expand my horizons. Tim wanted to teach me that to really make a difference in people’s lives, we needed to be a part of their lives. As a result, he taught me to talk to kids and really listen to them. He taught me to be available to them and to be ready to take action when it became necessary. These were not things that I was comfortable with, but now, as I am in my 40’s, I understand how needed this is in the world. It has been said that a ship is safe in the harbor, but that is not what a ship was built for. A ship is built to sail the seas! The kids do not care how much I know until they know how much I care. When I care for a person, then I can influence their lives. Tim was trying to get me to sail outside of the safe harbor and into the oceans so that I could be useful.

At the time, I did not realize how much of an impact Tim had on my life. I also didn’t realize how much of an impact I was making on the youth’s lives to which we were ministering. I met with Tim about 3 months ago for the first time in several years. We began discussing all the kids we have seen since we stopped working with that ministry. As I began to list the kids that I am still in contact with and talk about the special relationships we still maintain, I realize why Tim was pushing me. I realize that 15 years after I began those relationships, I am still an anchor for some of these people. I realize that I love them dearly and they me.

A Time Capsule brings back Feelings

Now, you may be asking what all this has to do with Time Capsules . . . Everything. You see, a Time Capsule is about capturing a moment in time and preserving it for the future. The one thing that remains the same is that things always change. Time waits for no man or woman. Prices will always go up. Our lives will always move on. Change is inevitable. Capturing a moment by making a Time Capsule is not really about what is going on in the moment so much as it is about connecting that moment in the future. We forget things. We forget the feelings surrounding an event.

I have been on many roller coasters in my lifetime. I know what they are like, but I forget the thrill of the moment. There is nothing like the last few seconds before the coaster begins to speed up at the top of the hill. It is pure excitement. I know what that feels like, but I forget everything that is involved. That is true of the Time Capsule as well. You capture that moment, just before your life changes forever, and save all the emotions, excitement, thrill, joy, enthusiasm, and surroundings of the moment so, in the future, you can return and ride the roller coaster again.

How dreadful it would be if we allow a Milestone Moment to pass us by, never to return. Never to be relived. Don’t let this happen to you. Order your Time Capsule today, by clicking here!

My thoughts tend to think about those, like Chaffin who had difficulty adjusting to civilian life and those who never made it home. Many of our wonderful service men and women come home and are diagnosed with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.) PTSD was not really heard of at that time, but today, we understand more about this mental disorder.

While most of us love to hear the “loud boom” of the fireworks and see the brightly colored lights, many of our combat veterans with PTSD do not find this a glorious time. It reminds them of war, and as the photo of Chaffin above reminds us, “War is hell.” It reminds them of being bombed and of mortar shells being dropped on them and of death. It reminds them of a time they would rather forget.

Our freedoms are paid for with blood. Our right to gather peacefully and speak our minds and even drink alcohol are paid for by these wonderful men and women. To quote the movie, “A Few Good Men,” these men, “. . . stand on a wall and say, ‘Nothing’s going to hurt you tonight, not on my watch.'” Our freedoms are paid for with men and women who come home without their hands, feet, arms, and legs. They are paid for with skin burns, scars, and handicaps. They are paid for with mental disorders we are just now beginning to understand. They are paid for with the lives of our young people as far back as our founding fathers.

No, our freedoms are far from free. As a matter of fact, they are rather expensive!

So, this year as you celebrate the birth of the United States of America, as you light off your fireworks, as you enjoy the time with your family, and you have your picnic, or cookout, take some time to thank a veteran. Spend some time listening to their stories. Learn about what they did in the service of their country and remember that this service was for you. Ask them about the conditions during their service and about the family they left behind and how much they missed them. Then spend some time and ask yourself if you would be able to do the same thing. Ask yourself how hard it would be to come back and live a life without an arm or a leg.

When you are done, and have an appreciation for what they have done for you, shake their hand and thank them for their service. Then, return to your own loved ones, give them the biggest hug you can muster, tell them how much you loved them, and enjoy the weekend with a better understanding of your freedoms!!

Happy Birthday America!

Happy 4th of July!!!

THANK YOU TO ALL OUR VETERANS!!!!

The Family Portrait

When is the last time you took ‘the family portrait?’ I can remember when I was growing up, my family did the family portrait. Every few years, we went to a photography studio and had a photo session with a photographer. As I look back on these events, I do not recall the drama that most sitcoms of today portray, but I have noticed something else. . . Advertising.

Yes, that is right, advertising. I know what you are thinking . . . The studios put their logo and/or watermark on the photo to show others who took the photo. Nope. That is not what I am talking about. I am talking about my father, and his advertising scheme. See, my father is in the Real Estate Business. My mother wanted him to pay for a family photo, and see thought this would be a waste of money. So, he decided to make his contribution to the photo in the form of advertising.

My father went out and purchased Sweatshirts, or Jackets with his Company Name on them and somehow convinced my mother that if we were going to have a family photo, we should take it all wearing those items. I guess my mother just wanted the photo so bad that she gave in and agreed. This also had the added benefit of making both the photo session and the sweatshirts and the jackets a tax write-off for his business. He didn’t mind this so much since he was probably going to be purchasing sweatshirts and jackets for us kids anyway and this way he also got the advertising out of it.

When I was young, I don’t remember giving it a second thought, but as an adult, I understand more about how the world works, and to be perfectly honest, I think it was brilliant. Setting the idea aside, I really think that family photos are a must for all families. While I understand these can be expensive, I think it is overall a necessity. These photos not only serve to remind us of our family, and can be used as Christmas cards, but they also serve to remind us that time changes.

I look back at our extended family Christmas photo and I have to laugh. There are people in the photo that I have not seen in several years, and there are even a couple of people who have left this world. We never know when tragedy will strike. For all we know, the photo we are taking right now may be the last opportunity to have a photo of our loved one. My brother died unexpectedly in a car accident and the photo of him that my mother took just a few days before became a cherished possession for our family.

There are also ways of keeping this photography cheap – mainly by taking the photo yourself. Get the family together, break out the digital camera and take the photo. Then, take it to your local Walmart, pharmacy, or photo lab and have prints made. Hang it on the wall and display it proud.

No matter where you are, real time capsules are everywhere. Do you have a story about taking a family photo and the drama that came from it? Tell us about it in the comments below!

A Time Before Digital Photography

Remember when we had a time before digital photography? I had just turned 8 years old. My parents were holding a small birthday party for me and my grandparents came. I was an excited 8 year old, as most would be. Any why shouldn’t I be? I was turning 8 and there was a party specifically for me. I was getting cake and ice cream and presents. What 8 year old doesn’t like presents?

I had opened most of my presents. To be honest, I don’t remember any of them now. Except one. I opened my grandparents gift and I was shocked. Inside was a film camera from Kodak. I had the conscience thought that my grandparents had spent a lot of money on this gift. I was close to my grandpa. He taught me a lot of different things about tools and fishing. My dad was not a “handy man” in any way shape or form, so I developed a love of working with my hands from my grandfather. He loved to grow plants and make things in his wood shop. I still have a wood toy box that he made me when I was 10. It is in my basement and has stood up to the test of time. It is now 30 years old and looks just as good today as it did 30 years ago!

I can remember at our family Christmas party about 5 months before that my grandfather had asked me to take a picture for him. He handed me his camera and said to “look through the viewfinder until everyone is in the photo. Then you push this button.” It was my first experience actually using a camera and I was excited to be “trusted” to take the photo. My grandpa told me that I had done a good job with that photo and that he believed it was time for me to have my own camera. That is why he purchased it for me.

After the party was over, my mother told me that I would have to purchase my own film, but once I took the photos, she would pay to have them developed and printed. See, this was before the days of digital photography and color printers that you could use at home. This camera was a 110 Film camera. While it was a point-and-click camera, once the film was exposed, it had to be taken to the photo lab, developed, and prints had to be made. This was not something the average person could do at home.

I used that camera until I was in High School and I kept it long into my adult life. It was a symbol of my freedom. Of growing up. I could now make my own memories and save the moments in time that I wanted to save. I still have many of the photos that I took with that camera, and that small gift to an 8 year old sparked a life-long love of photography and capturing moments in time. I’m not saying that the reason I own this company is because of that gift, but I will tell you that it certainly was a contributing factor.

What has sparked a love in your life, or the lives of those around you? What gift or moment has changed your life? Can you point to a specific event or time or thing in your life that changed the course you were headed in? It is amazing to me how many people can look back on their life and see a defining moment that changed their lives forever. Can you plan such an event? Yes! Each moment we have has the potential to be a life changing moment for yourself or someone else. While I am not convinced that my grandfather intended to change my life, I am 100% convinced that he saw something that he wanted to nurture. He saw potential. He wanted to encourage something. If it didn’t pan out, that was fine, but if it did, he would have brought new art, love, compassion, passion, and beauty into the world through someone else’s hands.

That is the power of a 110 camera moment. That is the power of a gift to an 8 year old. That is a Time Capsule Moment.

What is nostalgia and why is it important?

Stop singing that song. I can’t stop hearing it in my head. Great, now I am going to be singing it all day long. Music can bring back strong memories. Some good. Some not so good. Music can make us feel strong emotions many times. Nostalgia and feeling emotions, or getting songs stuck in our heads, are all tied into who we are.

Nostalgia – “pleasure and sadness that is caused by remembering something from the past and wishing that you could experience it again”

Other definitions of Nostalgia from Merriam Webster are:

– “the state of being homesick : homesickness“

– “a wistful or excessively sentimental yearning for return to or of some past period or irrecoverable condition; also : something that evokes nostalgia”

Remember your Past

Remembering your past, or who you used to be is important to look at many times. You are who you are, because of the time you grew up. Are you a 60’s, 80’s, or baby of today? Nostalgia is all about you and your memories. What do you remember from your past? Going back in time to review our identity, can help us see how much we have changed, have accomplished, or have wised up and when we officially became an “adult.”

Our identities are developed a lot as we age, and are based on who we hang around. Have you ever driven by your old childhood home? What nostalgic memories do you remember when you saw your old house? What feelings did you have?

There is a reason why certain photos are shared on Facebook, over other pictures. We can relate to their sayings or the photo of the old item we used to all use in the past. Nostalgia can be a time, place, item, or anything that brings back those warm fuzzy feelings. How do we get back to a state like that? How do we go back in time to reminisce about these things again?

Nostalgia helps us evaluate how far we have come in life. Nostalgia can be like meditation taking you back to the good old days. What insight could you gain about yourself as you look through your old report cards as you grew up in school? Where did you spend most of your time as a child? Who were some of the greatest influences in your life? How did they encourage you?

This is meant to be a reflective blog today. What are you doing today that you want to remember 10, 20, or 50 years from now? Nostalgia is an emotions that is tied to so many of our different senses. Nostalgia helps us not feel alone, because we all can feel like we belong when we relate to one another over a similar object or memory of the past.

Nostalgia is universal and can be experienced at any age. I feel nostalgia anytime I play old video games. When you receive a card in the mail from an old friend you have not talked to in years, nostalgia will arise. Every time I hear frogs croaking at night, it takes me back to my childhood when I would fall asleep to the sound of frogs in our pond. What a great memory. Nostalgia can be bittersweet. It can make us realize how fast our school years flew by, or how fast our kids grew up.

What makes you feel nostalgia? Comment below.

What to put in a Vacation Time Capsule

Learn what to put in a Vacation Time Capsule. Save your souvenirs and memories. Most of the things that seem to be irrelevant are what we later spend money buying or watching. You may not appreciate what you have until you lose it, or when they are not available again. One of the reasons why we keep items in the time capsule is to make sure that we don’t lose them. If you’re an avid vacationer, you probably will have some means of keeping important memories.

There are many things to put in vacation time capsule and most of them are something you may not come across again. In fact, some are things you never thought of.

Since time capsules are cannot hold much larger items, you would want to ensure that important items are kept for the future purposes. So what are the things to put in vacation time capsule? Some of them are highlighted in the next couple of paragraphs.

Anything that is peculiar to that region. Where is your next vacation destination? Are you traveling to other countries, or just other parts of the US? Wherever you chose for your next vacation, make sure you keep an eye on things that are peculiar to that region. As for me, I can save anything that looks strange to me. Depending on the regions you want to visit, you can easily look for things that people love about the region.

Pictures. I’m sure you won’t want your vacation to be a story without evidence. Taking pictures is one of the best ways to keep memories alive. Apart from uploading your pictures online, you can print some of them and put them in your time capsule. Why do you need to put vacation pictures in your time capsule?

Of course, you can upload your pictures online and keep them safe. Unfortunately, other people won’t be able to access your online account except they know your password, which may be impossible. However, if you put those pictures in your time capsule, it will remain accessible once the key is kept in a secure place. Even if the key is missing, you can destroy the padlock and use another one.

Keep of written history in your vacation time capsule. Have you ever visited a museum where people tell the story of past events, such as war, flood, and so on? Were you able to write the story in your note? You may not realize the importance of taking note of the story until you arrive home. Only few people can tell the real story of ancient events. So if you have someone to tell it in detail, make sure you write it and keep the note in your time capsule. Such note can serve many purposes, and can help you be useful in other means.

There are many things you can put in your vacation time capsule, however, you may not have the list at hand. What you keep in your vacation time capsule can serve as an evidence in later time.

If possible, you can record a video clip of your trip and keep the SD card inside your vacation time capsule.

What would you put in your vacation time capsule?

This morning my wife asked me to write another blog. All day I have been thinking about what to write, and frankly, I was out of ideas. This is not all that unusual for me as I typically write a blog when I become inspired by something, still she needed me to write one, so I decided to look for inspiration. One of the things I do when I need inspiration is to take a few minutes to “get away from my normal routine.”

Today’s choice of “getting away” was to go out and work on a large hole I have in our pool liner. I took the time to gather up the materials I needed to finish fixing this hole when it began to rain. Since I cannot fix this size of a hole in the rain, I chose to go sit on my front porch and listen to it fall. This is also a place of inspiration for me, and it proved why rather quickly.

As I sat on my porch swing watching and listening to the rain fall and looking at the trees across the street and my neighbors house I was suddenly reminded of my childhood. You see, the lady that lives in the house next to us is getting older. Up until a year or so ago, she still lived by herself and mowed her own lawn. This is really rather impressive since she is almost 90! She is still in good health, but recently, she has gone to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Not because she needs to, but more because they worry about her. The interesting thing is that for a couple of nights a week, she is still in her home and, on the weekends, her daughter comes to mow the lawn for her and tend to her flowers in the yard.

As I sat looking around and observing, I noticed that in the past few weeks, they have put out her porch swing, which she had brought in last fall. They have also put out a couple of outdoor chairs on the front porch. Now, I realize this is not a time capsule . . . they are just chairs and a swing. But, it took me back to a different place from my childhood.

I can remember, as a child being at my grandma’s house. They had similar chairs on their back porch. They had a similar swing just off of their carport. The biggest difference here is that my grandma’s were almost never empty. They always had friends and neighbors sitting in those places at their house. It seemed that every night, my grandparents would go to someone’s house or someone would come to theirs. They were not invited. They did not invite others. But they were always there. At very least a couple of times a week.

They would sit outside in the chairs and on the swing and talk. They would share stories about my grandpa’s orchids he was growing, or the cabbage in the garden. They would talk about politics and government. They would talk about their kids and grandchildren. It seemed that with these people there was nothing held back. The whole time they were talking, they would sip the iced tea that my grandma made or maybe even lemonade.

As an adult, I have not done this for years! I have never been to my neighbors front porch to talk. It is probably because I do not want to “offend” her by coming over uninvited, but why is that? She is a wonderful lady, and I know that she would not have a problem if I just stopped by to talk to her.

My neighbor, as I said, is almost 90 years old. She has lived in the same house since she was a teenager. Her father built that house. She knows almost everything there is to know about our small town and is eager to share it with those who will listen. She lost two husbands to war. She has lived through Hitler, the Korean war, the Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam, Columbine High School Massacre, 9/11, The Gulf War, Swing Dancing, Disco, and Bell Bottoms. The woman has seen many things! She is not shy, and is willing to share her knowledge with those who are willing to listen.

My question for you, dear reader, is this, “Who is a time capsule in your life?” Who do you know that has seen more things in their lifetime than you? Are they willing to share? Are you willing to ask? Invite them over to your front porch, poor a pitcher of iced tea or lemonade and see where the conversation goes. Be sure to have a full pitcher of that tea, because you don’t want to run out in the middle of a story. Keep the glass full and make it a regular thing. Get a time capsule today here, and write out the stories of the mentor, family member, or friend you interview. Let them read their answers 10 or 20 years from now when the time capsule is opened again.

Leave the phone inside and the computer turned off. You won’t need them for this time. It is only a couple of hours a week and your text messages will be waiting when you go back inside. I promise you that the interaction you have with this person will enrich your life in a way that no text message ever does. These people are a wealth of knowledge and they will share what they know with you. So, pull up a chair and strap in . . . It is going to be a fun ride. And who knows? You might just gain a perspective on life that you never had before. You might just get a history lesson from someone who was actually there. Sounds like a great way to bring history a little closer to the present to me. Bring a pen and paper . . . You never know what you might learn and want to write down.

People grow up. People change. I am sure you have some friends that you played with as a child that you no longer see. Do you ever wonder what happened to them Now, thanks to social media we can look up some of our old long, lost friends if we want to. It is such a nostalgic feeling when you see them again, even online.

A part of you became who you are because of your old friends, or because of an old boyfriend. Have you ever gone through your old journals or diaries, and jumped back in time to see what you were thinking back in 2010, 2000, or earlier in your life. It is so much fun to read your old journal and realize how far you have come. Who all influenced your life in your past? You may not even know until you open your old diary and see who your wrote about the most.

Some people are scared to grow up because they are afraid they will lose their innocence or fun youth about themselves. Every now and then I like to go swing on a swing at a local park myself. Write a journal or diary now, even if you have never had one, so that you can look back at it 10 years from now and see how life has changed. How do you think you will answer specific questions differently 10 years from now compared to today.

Cherish your friendships. There is nothing like it. Great friends are so rare. Friends help keep you young, as you all reminisce about old memories. We all try to look and feel young. Here are some tips on how to do that.

1. There are many people online who talk about the antioxidants in Green Tea that help keep you young (and not get wrinkles). Read this article to learn more about Green Tea and how it can help you.

2. Walking with confidence helps you stay happy. Meditating on positive affirmations can help us talk and stand with confidence, and fight off our worries at the same time. A cheerful heart really is good medicine, and can laughter can help take away the worries and keep you young. Surround yourself with positive friends, who help lift your spirits on a daily basis and keep you young as well.

3. Drinking plenty of water and getting plenty of sleep can also help keep you and your skin young. Your body craves water. I used to hate drinking water, but now after I forced myself to get off of soda, and drink water more, I feel fantastic and have much more energy, making me feel young again.

4. Find something you like to do each week to decrease your stress levels. Lowering your stress levels and getting rid of toxins in your body will help you have an increase in energy let alone, help you be happier each day and keep you feeling young. What do you like to do for fun?

5. Reminisce with family and friends and open an old photo album. You can also make your own time capsule, to open years later and see how you all have changed. What photos would you keep in a time capsule for your family or yourself? What items are in your closet, basement, or garage that need to be put in a safe place as some of the most important letters you have received in life, or souvenirs you have received? Place them in a time capsule, as you tell the story of each item. This will take you back in time as you tell the story to your children or grandchildren in the future about what life was like when you were a kid. That will keep you young, even 10 years from now when you open the time capsule again.

You can get your own “Any Occasion” DIY Time Capsule here now. Get started today. Print your own photos you would like to put on the outside of the DIY time capsule. Decorate it with writing, artwork, stickers, or anything else you see fit that describes you or your family right now. Then, put in some of your most treasured items that represent your life right now. After that, write a letter to yourself or have family members write a letter to the future, making predictions about what life will be like for you or your family 10 or 20 years from now. Then decide on a date to open the time capsule again in the future. Put that date on the lid. Then, set your beautifully decorated time capsule out on your fireplace mantle or hide it in your closet, so you forget about it.
